Individuals Seeking to Work in Japan as Registered Foreign Lawyers or Certified Public Accountants

A person with registered foreign lawyer, foreign certified public accountant, or other legal certifications who wishes to work in Japan can acquire a “Legal/Accounting Services” visa.

The following requirements must be met to acquire a "Legal/Accounting Services" visa:

  • The applicant must be employed as a lawyer, judicial scrivener, real estate surveyor, registered foreign lawyer, certified public accountant, foreign certified public accountant, certified tax accountant, certified social insurance labor consultant, patent attorney, marine procedure commission agent, or administrative scrivener.

If the person currently lives outside of Japan and wishes to enter Japan with a “Legal/Accounting Services” visa, the person will need to submit the following documents.

  • Application for Certificate of Eligibility
  • Photograph
  • Return envelope
  • Documentation certifying that the applicant possesses at least one of the following Japanese certifications (copy of license, certification, etc.)
    • Lawyer
    • Judicial scrivener
